The Meadow Lake Co-op opened its new service centre officially on April 25. General Manager Allan Halter spoke to a large crowd about the building and what an accomplishment it has been. Also in attendance were representatives from Federated Co-op and the contracting company. Ron Buck (centre), a long-time former board member of the Co-op cut the ribbon to commemorate the opening. The Woodland Multiple 4-H Club held its Canine Achievement Day on April 27 at Gateway Elementary School. Members displayed the training they had given their dogs as their yearly project. The show included grooming and obedience. See more photos at the Pictures in Progress section.

Bob Ellenor, a local farmer who was injured by a baler several years ago was touring local schools this past week promoting farm safety awareness. He is a spokesperson with the SaskAbilities Council.

Jonas Samson Junior High students got a taste of harsh reality during the PARTY program at the Northwest Health Facility on April 25. The Meadow Lake Girl Guide unit prepared for cookie selling at their meeting on April 29. They entered a photo contest to get their photo on the front of next year’s cookie boxes. They built a castle wall out of boxes. The unit will be selling the cookies door to door on May 6. Shown, guide Andie Kurjata and brownies Jenelle Vargassy and Leila Mitchell stack boxes. Fire strikes home outside of Meadow Lake

Meadow Lake Fire and Rescue responded to a call at 3:08 p.m. in Rapid View on April 30. The fire chief and deputy, and eight firefighters responded. The fire, which was accidental, started in the basement of the house and was ignited after the dryer hose caught fire. There was extensive smoke and fire damage. The firefighters were able to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to the rest of the home.
